The American Legion National Commander Dan Wiley recently visited the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home at Paramus alongside Department of New Jersey Commander Dan Channel and members of his leadership team, spending time with residents and learning more about the care and support provided to Garden State Veterans, Veteran Spouses, and Gold Star Families.
 
Frank Calandrillo, Chairman of the Facility Advisory Council, and members of the Paramus staff graciously coordinated a tour of the home, highlighting the facility’s commitment to delivering compassionate, high-quality care.
 
Paramus has earned and maintained a five out of five-star rating from the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The five-star designation is based on positive findings from independent health inspections, staffing levels, and resident-level quality measures of clinical care. The home was also separately recognized as among the top nursing homes in the United States for 2026 by Newsweek and U.S. News & World Report.
 
The tour also offered an opportunity for Commander Wiley to engage directly with residents, hear their stories, and recognize their service. Elected annually, the national commander is the chief executive officer of the American Legion. Commander Wiley was elected national commander on August 28, 2025, in Tampa, during the 106th American Legion National Convention. A U.S. Air Force Veteran, he is a retired state district court judge who raises cattle in Leavenworth, Kansas.
