Governor Addresses VFW Convention

Sherrill Shares Priorities, Commits to Veterans Support Services

On May 28th, Governor Mikie Sherrill attended the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of New Jersey convention at the Wildwoods Convention Center in Wildwood. Joined by Vincent Solomeno, Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Veterans Affairs, and U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Yvonne L. Mays, The Adjutant General of New Jersey, she honored the service of VFW’s volunteer leaders and committed to working together to ensure exceptional state-delivered veterans benefits, programs, and services for Garden State heroes.

“Advocates, mentors, cornerstones of their communities – from Fort Lee to Cape May,” said Sherrill, praising the work of VFW members statewide. “People who raise hundreds of thousands in scholarship money for New Jersey students. Who provide shelter and aid during floods and storms. Who run food and clothing drives to benefit thousands of families. Who are beacons of hope and strength in tough times.”

Following the Governor’s remarks, Commissioner Solomeno and Brig. Gen. Mays addressed the convention and presented Ken Hagemann, NJ VFW State Commander, and Barbara Kim-Hagemann with the New Jersey Commendation Medal. Other speakers at the convention included U.S. Representative Herb Conway Jr., New Jersey Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf, New Jersey Assemblywoman Aura K. Dunn, and Amy Osborn, CEO for the New Jersey Vietnam Memorial and Museum Foundation.
