Fiscal Year 2027 Budget Enacted
On June 30, following a months-long process, Governor Mikie Sherrill signed into law the State of New Jersey’s Fiscal Year 2027 Budget. The budget covers July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027 and I am pleased to share that the budget delivers record investments in the New Jersey Department of Veterans Affairs and state-delivered veterans benefits, programs, and services. It also provides record middle class property tax relief, invests in education and kids' online safety, fully funds the pension system, cuts the structural deficit in half, and grows the budget surplus.
During the Governor’s March Budget Address, she made clear that this Administration will be guided by the principles of affordability and accountability. The goal was to invest in programs and services that deliver measurable results. Throughout the budget season, she consistently highlighted the importance of supporting Garden State Veterans, including our shared commitment to effectively ending veteran homelessness through the Bringing Veterans Home initiative. The budget signed into law reflects that intent.
This budget proves that New Jersey can be both fiscally responsible and invest in the priorities that matter most to the veterans community. As a result of patient planning and deliberate engagement with the Legislature, we achieved increased investments in the Veterans Memorial Homes, Veterans Havens, Doyle Cemetery, monuments and memorials, and broader veterans benefits, programs, and services. I wish to thank members of the Legislature from both sides of the political aisle for their partnership throughout the budget process. Their support reflects New Jersey’s centuries-old commitment to caring for those who have borne the burden of service in the U.S. Armed Forces.
As I said during my budget testimony, DVA is focused on people, public service, and transformation. Every successful benefits claim, every resident receiving exceptional care, every Veteran connected with housing or employment, and every family supported during a difficult time is made possible by DVA’s dedicated professionals who have chosen public service as their calling. Our team remains committed to improving every aspect of the veteran experience, expanding opportunities for those who served, and ensuring that New Jersey sets the national standard in veterans policy, programs, and services.
