Morris County Hosts "Remembering Our Fallen" Memorial

Traveling Memorial Honors Lives Lost in the Global War on Terrorism

From September 24 to September 27, the Remembering Our Fallen Memorial was on display at County College of Morris in Randolph. The Remembering Our Fallen Memorial is a traveling photographic memorial that honors the Americans who lost their lives in the Global War on Terrorism and features their faces, names and stories. The memorial was brought to Morris County by the NJ SOS Veterans Stakeholders Group in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Veterans Affairs, the New Jersey Department of Military Affairs, Catholic Charities Diocese of Paterson, Welcome Home Vets of New Jersey, and County College of Morris.

Events were held throughout the weekend to honor the solemn importance of the memorial and to encourage New Jersey residents to visit and reflect on its significance. On Friday, September 25, Deputy Commissioner Esther Chucaralao attended and spoke at a Veteran Dinner hosted by Feeding our Heroes. At the dinner, the Morris County Commissioners presented AJ Luna, Co-Founder of NJ SOS Veterans Stakeholders Group, with a proclamation acknowledging his part in bringing the memorial to Morris County. On Saturday, September 26, Commissioner Solomeno spoke at the Grand Opening Ceremony of Remembering our Fallen at the college, and he reflected on the impact the Global War on Terrorism had and continues to have on every American. He presented a proclamation from Governor Mikie Sherrill recognizing the weekend’s remembrance events and reaffirming New Jersey’s commitment to honoring and remembering the fallen.

The event also featured remarks from State Senator Anthony Bucco, Assemblywomen Aura Dunn and Marisa Sweeney, Morris County Commissioner Director Stephen Shaw, and U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Yvonne L. Mays, The Adjutant General of New Jersey. Please find photos of the Grand Opening Ceremony here.

On Sunday, September 27, an event was held at the County College of Morris honoring Gold Star Family Day. The event featured presentations by True North Team, as well as Lucy Del Gaudio, DVA Women Veterans Coordinator, that honored families who lost loved ones in the Global War on Terrorism. On Gold Star Family Day and every day, we honor the families who carry the memories of those lost in service to our country.
