Audit Summary Application
School district auditors are required annually to prepare a summary of audited revenues and expenditures following the close of the fiscal year and the completion of the annual audit. The school district’s board secretary or business administrator is required annually to submit the data through the Audit Summary Application (AudSum).
The AudSum data is utilized by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) for many critical purposes, such as the Taxpayers' Guide to Education Spending, indirect cost rate calculations, Certified Tuition Rates and reporting to the National Center for Education Statistics.
The Release of 2023-2024 Fiscal Year Audit Summary Application (AudSum) broadcast provides information on this year’s application. Authorized public school staff and Independent public-school auditors access AudSum through the NJDOE’s Homeroom website.
The Technical Manual provides an in-depth description of the information required, the data entry process, and the certification process required to successfully navigate through the online application.
The independent public school auditor is responsible for entering or uploading fiscal data into the AudSum application. Users are encouraged to carefully review all new lines on the Audit Summary Worksheet. Added line items are marked as "new" and highlighted in yellow for easy identification.
The NJDOE will preload the AudSum data into the school district budget software. The school business administrator or board secretary in each school district, charter school or renaissance school project is ultimately responsible for the timely submission of the school certified and independent public-school auditor certified AudSum data to the NJDOE.
Questions regarding AudSum should be emailed to audsum@doe.nj.gov.
