Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill

“I oppose the president’s executive order that will make it harder for states like New Jersey to rein in Big Tech and protect our kids online with common-sense guardrails. Once again, the President is taking what should be a bipartisan issue and turning his back on the American people to curry favor with Big Tech CEOs.

“In Congress, I fought hard for Kids Online Safety Act, which passed the Senate overwhelmingly and then Big Tech killed in the House. Because the federal government won’t act, we simply cannot allow them to preempt states from doing the right thing to protect our kids.

“States like New Jersey are already protecting children from AI chatbots linked to teen suicides, shielding seniors from AI-enabled scams, and stopping deepfakes. I plan to go further with my Kids Online Safety Agenda and my attorney general will defend our right to take meaningful action on behalf of our kids.”
