Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill

TRENTON – Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill released the following statement regarding congressional approval of the FY2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

“Each year while serving on the House Armed Services Committee, I worked to craft a bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act that protected service members and their families, invested in New Jersey’s defense infrastructure, and upheld American interests around the world. As Governor, I look forward to continuing that mission in partnership with our state’s congressional delegation to maintain New Jersey’s position as a national leader in defense and security.

“This year’s NDAA makes important investments that will benefit New Jersey. I am particularly pleased with the bipartisan efforts from New Jersey’s congressional delegation to protect the mission at Picatinny Arsenal and direct additional resources to defense installations, service members, and military families across the Garden State. The bill also includes critical provisions to stand with our allies, guard against unconstitutional abuses of power, and ultimately support service members and their families.

“While I am deeply disappointed that once again provisions to protect service member’s rights and freedoms – including access to reproductive healthcare – were not included, I remain committed to fighting for the safety and well-being of those who proudly serve our nation.”
