Summer EBT

Each eligible child will receive a one-time summer benefit of $120 in the form of a Summer EBT card. Eligible students will receive a new Summer EBT card each year. Cards will be mailed by the end of June to the address provided by your participating child’s school; or, if your child attends a non-participating school, to the address provided by NJ SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, or Foster Care agencies.

Please note that the Summer EBT card is separate from the NJ Families First EBT card or any other benefit card. Once mailed, cards may take a few weeks to reach your address. If you need to update your child’s address, you must contact your child’s school.

If your child does not attend an NSLP/SBP-participating school, or is home-schooled, but your household participates in SNAP, TANF, income-eligible Medicaid, or Foster Care, and your child is between the ages of 6-16 years old, you must contact DFNSummerEBT@ag.nj.gov if you need to update your child’s address.

Once you have received your Summer EBT card, you will need to activate it and then you may check the balance of benefits at any time.

Please note that while the physical card expires in 2049, the benefits on the card expire 122 days from the date of issuance. Eligible students will receive a new card each year.

Summer EBT benefits remain on your card for 122 days (about four months) after they are issued. You do not have to use all the benefits at once, but any amount not spent within the 122-day timeframe will be removed from your card and cannot be replaced. Although the physical card may show an expiration year of 2049 printed on the back, the benefits themselves expire 122 days from the date they are issued. Eligible students will receive a new Summer EBT card each year, so be sure to use all benefits before they expire.
