Defending Your Civil Rights
The New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD) is one of the most comprehensive anti-discrimination laws in the country.
Under the law, you are protected from discrimination and harassment based on your gender identity and gender expression, including being transgender, non-binary, or gender non-conforming.
You are also protected from discrimination and harassment based on your race, national origin, religion, and disability when it comes to employment, housing, and places open to the public including businesses, schools, medical providers, etc.
In addition, an employer, housing provider, or place of public accommodation must not discriminate and must take action to stop such harassment if it knows or should have known about it.
