Statement from Department of Environmental Protection Acting
Commissioner Bob Martin on the Dredging of the Delaware River

(10/P5) TRENTON - DEP Acting Commissioner Bob Martin today released the following statement concerning the U.S. District Court decision from Delaware on dredging of a portion of the Delaware River shipping channel:

“We are extremely disappointed in the court’s decision. We believe there are significant environmental, economic and state’s rights concerns that the decision does not adequately take into account. All information and scientific analyses of other dredging projects indicate that there will be serious impacts to our natural resources in Delaware waters and an increase in air emissions that will adversely affect public health. Based on the information we currently have and since we have not received all the supplemental information previously requested, we strongly oppose this dredging project. A parallel legal action remains pending in federal court in New Jersey. We are reviewing all our options in consultation with the Attorney General’s Office.
