Sexual Assault…

• is the intentional sexual contact characterized by use of force, physical threat, abuse of authority, coercion or when the victim does not or cannot consent.
• Includes rape, non-consensual sexual acts, and intimate partner sexual violence
• Is a crime punishable under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
• Can occur without regard to gender, spousal relationship or age of the victim.

Restricted Report…

• Enables military personnel to report allegations of sexual assault to specific people, WITHOUT TRIGGERING AN INVESTIGATION
• Initial contact must be with the SARC, OR the Unit Victim Advocate (UVA), OR Chaplain, OR Medical personnel.
• Allows confidential access to medical care, counseling, and a UVA.
• Allows the victim additional time and increased control over the release and management of personal information.
• Empowers the victim to seek relevant information and support to make an informed decision about participation in the investigative process.
• Not applicable to family members, civilians and retired military personnel. 

Unrestricted Report…

• Any report of a sexual assault made through normal military channels which includes the victim’s chain of command, law enforcement and the criminal investigative services.
• The investigative process is initiated.
• The SARC will be notified and assign a Unit Victim Advocate (UVA), if desired. 
• Details of the allegations will be provided only to those personnel who have a legitimate need to know.
