Speed Limits For State Roads

Route NJ 27
(a) The rate of speed designated for the certain parts of State Highway Route NJ 27 described in this subsection are hereby established and adopted as the maximum legal rate of speed:
1. In Mercer County:
i. In the Borough of Princeton:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 25 MPH between Route US 206 (Bayard Lane) and Linden Lane (approximate mileposts 0.00 to 0.85); thence
(B) Zone 2: 30 MPH between Linden Lane and Cedar Lane (approximate mileposts 0.85 to 1.28); thence
(C) Zone 3: 35 MPH between Cedar Lane and a point 300 feet north of Snowden Lane (approximate mileposts 1.28 to 1.49); thence
ii. In the Township of Princeton:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(B) Zone 1: 45 MPH between a point 300 feet north of Snowden Lane and the Princeton Township-Franklin Township/South Brunswick Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 1.49 to 3.02); thence
2. In Middlesex County:
NOTE: See Somerset County below for southbound speed limits from approximate mileposts 3.02 to 5.06 and 6.14 to 15.17.
i. In the Township of South Brunswick:
(1) For the northbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the Princeton Township-Franklin Township/South Brunswick Township corporate line and a point 640 feet south of Church Street-Academy Street (approximate milepost 3.02 to 3.20); thence
(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between a point 640 feet south of Church Street-Academy Street and Church Street-Academy Street (approximate mileposts 3.20 to 3.32); thence
(C) Zone 3: 25 MPH between Church Street-Academy Street and Laurel Avenue-Heathcote Brook Road (approximate mileposts 3.32 to 3.43); thence
(D) Zone 4: 35 MPH between Laurel Avenue-Heathcote Brook Road and 300 feet north of Shaw Drive (approximate mileposts 3.43 to 3.62); thence
(E) Zone 5: 45 MPH between a point 300 feet north of Shaw Drive and 1,450 feet north of Raymond Road (approximate mileposts 3.62 to 4.38); thence
(F) Zone 6: 50 MPH between a point 1,450 feet north of Raymond Road and the southernmost South Brunswick Township-Franklin Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 4.38 to 5.06); thence

(I) Zone 9: 50 MPH between the Bunker Hill Road-New Road and Beekman Road (approximate mileposts 7.79 to 9.23); thence

(B) Zone 2: 45 MPH between 200 feet north of Evelyn Avenue and Six Mile Run (approximate mileposts 10.60 to 11.55); thence
(C) Zone 3: 40 MPH between Six Mile Run and the North Brunswick Township-City of New Brunswick corporate line (approximate mileposts 11.55 to 13.41); thence
iii. In the City of New Brunswick:
(1) For the northbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the North Brunswick Township-City of New Brunswick corporate line and the Franklin Township-City of New Brunswick corporate line (Somerset Street) (approximate mileposts 13.41 to 15.17); thence
(2) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the Franklin Township-City of New Brunswick corporate line (Somerset Street) and 100 feet north of Sandford Street (approximate mileposts 15.17 to 15.40); thence

iv. In the Borough of Highland Park:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 30 MPH between the southerly end of the bridge over the Raritan River and Eighth Avenue (approximate mileposts 16.65 to 17.58); thence
(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between Eight Avenue and the Highland Park Borough - Edison Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 17.58 to 18.04); thence
v. In the Township of Edison:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the Highland Park Borough-Edison Township corporate line and the southernmost Edison Township-Metuchen Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 18.04 to 20.84); thence
(B) Zone 2: 40 MPH between the northernmost Metuchen Borough-Edison Township corporate line and Frederic Street (approximate mileposts 23.26 to 23.86); thence
(C) Zone 3: 45 MPH between Frederic Street and the Edison Township-Woodbridge Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 23.86 to 24.33).
vi. In the Borough of Metuchen:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the southernmost Edison – Metuchen Borough corporate line and Kentnor Street (approximate mileposts 20.84 to 21.29); thence
(B) Zone 2: 25 MPH between Kentnor Street and Oak Avenue (approximate mileposts 21.29 to 22.34); thence
(C) Zone 3: 35 MPH between Oak Avenue and the northernmost Metuchen Borough – Edison Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 22.34 to 23.26); thence
vii. In the Township of Woodbridge:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the Edison Township-Woodbridge Township corporate line and the Woodbridge Township-City of Rahway corporate line (approximate mileposts 24.33 to 27.13); thence

4. In Union County:
i. In the City of Rahway:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the Woodbridge Township-City of Rahway corporate line to the intersection of Route NJ 35 (approximate mileposts 27.13 to 27.29); thence
(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between the intersection of Route NJ 35 and the City of Rahway-City of Linden corporate line, except for 25 MPH when passing through the Franklin School zone while "25 MPH when flashing" signs are operating and 25 MPH when passing through the Roosevelt School zone during recess, when the presence of children is clearly visible from the roadway or while children are going to or leaving school during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 27.29 to 29.66); thence
ii. In the City of Linden:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the City of Rahway-City of Linden corporate line and the City of Linden-Roselle Borough corporate line (Wood Avenue), except for 25 MPH when passing through the Linden High School Academy of Science and Technology school zone (approximate milepost 30.5) during recess, when the presence of children is clearly visible from the roadway or while children are going to or leaving school during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 29.66 to 30.65); thence
(2) For the northbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the City of Linden-Roselle Borough corporate line (Wood Avenue) and the intersection of Baltimore Avenue West (approximate mileposts 30.65 to 31.52); thence
(B) Zone 2: 30 MPH between the intersection of Baltimore Avenue West and the City of Linden-City of Elizabeth corporate line (approximate mileposts 31.52 to 32.79); thence
iii. In the Borough of Roselle:
(1) For the southbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the City of Linden-Roselle Borough corporate line (Wood Avenue) and the intersection of Baltimore Avenue West (approximate mileposts 30.65 to 31.52); thence
(B) Zone 2: 30 MPH between the intersection of Baltimore Avenue and the Roselle Borough-City of Elizabeth corporate line (approximate mileposts 31.52 to 32.73); thence
iii. In the City of Elizabeth:
(1) For the southbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 30 MPH between the Roselle Borough-City of Elizabeth corporate line and the City of Linden-City of Elizabeth corporate line (approximate mileposts 32.73 to 32.79); thence
(2) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 30 MPH between the City of Linden-City of Elizabeth corporate line and the intersection of Broad Street (approximate mileposts 32.79 to 34.34); thence
(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between the intersection of Broad Street and the City of Elizabeth-City of Newark corporate line (approximate mileposts 34.34 to 35.80); thence
