Speed Limits for State Roads


Route NJ 27

(a)

The rate of speed designated for the certain parts of State Highway Route NJ 27 described in this subsection shall be established and adopted as the maximum legal rate of speed:

1.

In Mercer County:

i. In the Borough of Princeton:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 25 MPH between Route US 206 (Bayard Lane) and Linden Lane (approximate mileposts 0.00 to 0.81); thence

(B) Zone 2: 30 MPH between Linden Lane and Cedar Lane (approximate mileposts 0.81 to 1.28); thence

ii. In the Township of Princeton:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between Cedar Lane and a point 300 feet north of Snowden Lane (approximate mileposts 1.28 to 1.49); thence

(B) Zone 2: 45 MPH between 300 feet north of Snowden Lane in Princeton Township and extending into South Brunswick Township, Middlesex County and Franklin Township, Somerset County 640 feet south of Church Street-Academy Street (Village of Kingston), (approximate mileposts 1.49 to 3.20); thence

In Middlesex and Somerset Counties:

i. In the Townships of South Brunswick (Middlesex), North Brunswick (Middlesex) and Franklin (Somerset):

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between 640 feet south of Church Street-Academy Street and Church Street-Academy Street (South Brunswick Township, Middlesex County and Franklin Township, Somerset County), (approximate mileposts 3.20 to 3.32); thence

(B) Zone 2: 25 MPH between Church Street-Academy Street and Laurel Avenue-Heathcote Brook Road (South Brunswick Township, Middlesex County and Franklin Township, Somerset County), (approximate mileposts 3.32 to 3.43); thence

(C) Zone 3: 35 MPH between Laurel Avenue-Heathcote Brook Road and 300 feet north of Shaw Drive (South Brunswick Township, Middlesex County and Franklin Township, Somerset County),  (approximate mileposts 3.43 to 3.62); thence

(D) Zone 4: 45 MPH from a point 300 feet north of Shaw Drive and 1,450 feet north of Raymond Road (South Brunswick Township, Middlesex County and Franklin Township, Somerset County), (approximate mileposts 3.62 to 4.44); thence

(E) Zone 5: 50 MPH from a point 1,450 feet north of Raymond Road and 100 feet south of Allston Road (South Brunswick Township, Middlesex County and Franklin Township, Somerset County),  (approximate mileposts 4.44 to 7.35); thence

(F) Zone 6: 45 MPH to a point 110 feet north of the centerline of New Road (South Brunswick Township, Middlesex County and Franklin Township, Somerset County), (approximate mileposts 7.35 to 7.79); thence

(G) Zone 7: 50 MPH between the Bunker Hill Road-New Road and Beekman Road (South Brunswick Township, Middlesex County and Franklin Township, Somerset County), (approximate mileposts 7.79 to 9.24); thence

(H) Zone 8: 40 MPH between Beekman Road and 200 feet north of Evelyn Avenue (South Brunswick Township-North Brunswick Township, Middlesex County, and Franklin Township, Somerset County), (approximate mileposts 9.24 to 10.56); thence

ii. In the Townships of North Brunswick (Middlesex), Franklin (Somerset), and the City of New Brunswick (Middlesex County):

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between 200 feet north of Evelyn Avenue and Six Mile Run (North Brunswick Township, Middlesex County and Franklin Township, Somerset County), (approximate mileposts 10.56 to 11.54); thence

(B) Zone 2: 40 MPH between Six Mile Run and 100 feet north of Sandford Street, (North Brunswick Township and New Brunswick City, Middlesex County, and Franklin Township, Somerset County (approximate mileposts 11.54 to 15.41); thence

NOTE: Route NJ 27 between 100 feet north of Sandford Street and the southerly end of the bridge over the Raritan River in New Brunswick City is under County (Middlesex) jurisdiction (approximate mileposts 15.41 to 16.71).

In Middlesex County:

i. In the Borough of Highland Park:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 30 MPH between the southerly end of the bridge over the Raritan River and Eight Avenue (mileposts 16.71 to 17.61); thence

(B) Zone 2: 40 MPH between Eight Avenue and the Highland Park Borough-Edison Township line (mileposts 17.61 to 18.08); thence

ii. In the Township of Edison:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the Highland Park Borough-Edison Township line and the Edison Township-Metuchen Borough line (mileposts 18.08 to 20.83); thence

NOTE: Route NJ 27 from milepost 20.83 to 23.25 is listed under the Borough of Metuchen

(B) Zone 2: 40 MPH between the Metuchen Borough-Edison Township line and Frederic Street (mileposts 23.25 to 23.87); thence

(C) Zone 3: 45 MPH between Frederic Street and the Edison Township-Woodbridge Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 23.87 to 24.33); thence

iii. In the Borough of Metuchen:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the Edison Township-Metuchen Borough line and Bridge Street (mileposts 20.83 to 20.95); thence

(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between Bridge Street and Kentnor Street (mileposts 20.95 to 21.27); thence

(C) Zone 3: 30 MPH between Kentnor Street and Oak Avenue (mileposts 21.27 to 22.34); thence

(D) Zone 4: 35 MPH between Oak Avenue and Wakefield Drive (mileposts 22.34 to 22.94); thence

(E) Zone 5: 40 MPH between Wakefield Drive and the Metuchen Borough-Edison Township line (mileposts 22.94 to 23.25); thence

iv.  In the Township of Woodbridge:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the Edison Township-Woodbridge Township corporate line and the Woodbridge Township-Rahway City corporate line (approximate mileposts 24.33 to 27.13); thence

3.

In Union County:

i. In the City of Rahway:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the Woodbridge Township-Rahway City corporate line to the intersection of Route 35 (approximate mileposts 27.13 to 27.29); thence

(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between the intersection of Route 35 and the Rahway City-Linden City corporate line, except for 25 MPH when passing through the Franklin School zone while "25 MPH when flashing" signs are operating and 25 MPH when passing through the Roosevelt School zone during recess, when the presence of children is clearly visible from the roadway or while children are going to or leaving school during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 27.29 to 29.66); thence

ii. In the City of Linden and Borough of Roselle:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Rahway City-Linden City corporate line and the intersection of Baltimore Avenue West, Roselle Borough, except for 25 MPH when passing through the Linden High School Academy of Science and Technology school zone (approximate milepost 30.5) during recess, when the presence of children is clearly visible from the roadway or while children are going to or leaving school during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 29.66 to 31.52); thence

(B) Zone 2: 30 MPH between the intersection of Baltimore Avenue West (Roselle Borough) and the Linden City-Elizabeth City corporate line (approximate mileposts 31.52 to 32.79); thence

iii. In the City of Elizabeth:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 30 MPH between the Linden City-Elizabeth City corporate line and the intersection of Broad Street (approximate mileposts 32.79 to 34.34); thence

(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between the intersection of Broad Street and the City of Elizabeth-City of Newark corporate line, Union County (approximate mileposts 34.34 to 35.80)
