Family Self Sufficiency

The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program is a voluntary case-management and asset-building program that provides incentives to work. FSS coordinates housing assistance with public and private resources to enable assisted families to achieve economic self-sufficiency.  Participation generally lasts five (5) years, during which participants identify educational, professional, and personal goals including:

  • Educational advancement (e.g. GED or post-secondary):
  • Supportive services
  • Completion of specialized job training
  • Employment
  • Career advancement
  • Transitioning out of subsidized housing and into homeownership

FSS provides resources, referrals for services, and assists with removing barriers that participants may face while working toward their goals of self-sufficiency.

FSS Coordinators assist participants with developing a plan that outlines specific activities needed to achieve their economic self-sufficiency goals. Throughout the program, the FSS Coordinator monitors participants' progress, and provides supportive services to assist the family with moving toward self-sufficiency.
