P.L. 2017, c. 136 (S3027) was signed into law on July 21, 2017 which established a goal of reducing food waste by 50%, based on 2017 food waste estimates, by the year 2030. This bill tasked the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to develop a plan that will guide the state to achieve the reduction goal. The draft plan, linked below, illustrates the issues of wasted food and possible short and long-term actions that can be implemented. Three public hearings will be held to seek comments on the draft plan.
