    In 2017, the NJ legislature passed two new food waste bills; one bill focused on creating voluntary guidelines for schools to reduce food waste, while the second bill set a food waste reduction goal for NJ that matches the USEPA food reduction goal

    P.L. 2017 c. 210 – Voluntary guidelines for K-12 schools - Requires DEP to establish voluntary guidelines for K-12 schools and institutions of higher education to reduce, recover, and recycle food waste.

    P.L. 2017 c. 136 - 50% food waste reduction by 2030 - Establishes state food waste reduction goal of 50 percent by 2030.
