FAMILY CABINS TO BE RESERVABLE 11 MONTHS IN ADVANCE

The New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry, State Park Service, is phasing out its traditional lottery system for reserving family cabins at state parks. Effective May 1, 2002, all New Jersey state parks and forests with family cabin facilities will begin to accept reservations for its 4, 6 and 8 bunk cabins up to 11 months in advance.

"This new system is designed to allow visitors to secure cabin reservations quickly and conveniently," said State Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Shinn. " It has proven effective with our other overnight lodging facilities and should work well for our cabins."

Reservations will be accepted during normal business hours by phone using a major credit card, by mail with payment in full, or in person. Reservations for campsites, lean-tos, shelters, yurts and group cabins already follow this process.

To provide advance notice to frequent past visitors, the State Park Service will hold one final lottery drawing on January 15, 2002. Applications for the cabin lottery will be accepted from January 1-15, 2002.

Beginning May 1, 2002, visitors will be able to make reservations for the 4, 6 and 8 bunk cabins not reserved through the lottery process for the 2002 season, as well as for April of 2003.

Those parks and forests effected by the change in reservation procedures are listed below. For more information, contact the sites directly.
