DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
STATEMENT

(02/77) Trenton - An announcement made in today's print media regarding the establishment of a tree planting memorial at Liberty State Park to commemorate New Jersey's 9/11 victims is incorrect.

New Jersey's Department of Environmental Protection has met with the New Jersey Tree Foundation to discuss Liberty State Park as a possible location for the organization's federally funded tree-planting project; however, Governor McGreevey has yet to make a decision on an official state memorial for New Jersey's 691 victims of September 11.

The Governor is conferring with the victims' family members before announcing the most appropriate design and location for a permanent memorial.
