Trenton Riverfront Park Pedestrian Bridge

LOCATION: Trenton, NJ Statehouse Parking Garage

BACKGROUND: Prior to 1950 before Route 29 was developed, people could walk along the Delaware River waterfront.   Although it is in an area highly used by the city for state landmarks, access to the waterfront was not created.  The pedestrian bridge will start at the top of the Statehouse parking garage and go to the 4.5-acre Park to be called Trenton Falls Park across Route 29.

The park will feature plantings, paths and lighting and the parcel of land will connect to Stacy Park, Mill Hill Park and the future site of the Assunpink Creek daylighting.  The project will be overseen by the Department of Transportation.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the pedestrian bridge is to allow pedestrians to walk from the statehouse parking garage over Route 29 to the 4.5-acre parcel of land to be called “Trenton Falls Park” transforming the riverfront into a destination location.

FUNDING:  Funding for the project was secured by The NJ Department of Transportation which is contributing 15 million and the NJDEP Office of Natural Resource Restoration which is contributing 3.5 million.
