ERT Recertification Instructions |
1. Meet the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) requirements. Recertification in the following is required:
- ASE A6 – Electrical/Electronics
- ASE A8 – Engine Performance
- ASE L1 – Advanced Engine Performance
2. Give ASE permission to e-mail your ASE certification status to the NJDEP. This MUST be done every time you recertify; we do not automatically receive recertification results. Please click here for the steps to follow:

3. Take the free online NJ-CERT Course and complete the NJ-CERT Assessment.
Please note: If you have taken the NJ-CERT Course within the past 2 years, you DO NOT need to complete it again until your next recertification cycle. If you are not sure when you took the NJ-CERT, please call or email via the contact information noted below.
4. Your ERT certificate and ID cards will be e-mailed to you upon approval. Your ERT expiration date will correspond to the expiration date of your ASE L1 certification.
