Elks Lodge Hosts Vineland Barbecue
Thanks to the dedication of the Marlton Elks Lodge 2514, residents at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home at Vineland recently enjoyed an afternoon filled with great food, lively games, and meaningful connection.
Through a National Elks Foundation Freedom Grant, the Lodge hosted a barbecue and bingo event designed to bring joy and engagement to the veterans who call Vineland home. The grant also supported the purchase of sensory toys for the facility’s new solarium, enhancing a calming and therapeutic space for residents.
The event was organized by Deborah Albrecht, Chairperson of the Lodge’s Veterans Services Committee, alongside State Trustee and Lodge member George Tencza. Their efforts drew such an overwhelming response from volunteers that, for the second year in a row, they had more support than they could accommodate.
For the Elks, the mission is clear: serve those who have served. While the barbecue and bingo brought smiles and laughter, organizers emphasized that the true purpose goes beyond the activities. Volunteers made it a priority to sit, listen, and engage in conversation with residents in an effort to create moments of connection that matter just as much as the event itself.
Among those volunteering was Eileen Linvill, the Lodge’s Leading Knight, who at over 80 years old continues to give her time and energy in service to others. As a military spouse, she understands firsthand the importance of community support for veterans and their families.
Now in its second year, this growing tradition reflects the power of partnership and compassion. Through initiatives like this, the Marlton Elks Lodge 2514 continues to make a lasting impact by bringing not only food and fun but also fellowship and appreciation to the veterans they proudly serve.
