New Jersey Department of Education

How to Request Special Accommodations

The purpose of accommodations is to provide candidates with an opportunity to have full access to the Adult Education High School Equivalency tests. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, an approved New Jersey Adult Education Testing Center must ensure that testing services are provided to candidates with disabilities in order to continue to qualify as an official New Jersey Adult Education Testing Center.

Test accommodations are individualized and considered on a case-by-case basis. Consequently, no single type of accommodation (i.e., extra time) would necessarily be appropriate for all individuals with disabilities.  In addition, simply demonstrating that an individual meets diagnostic criteria for a particular disorder does not mean that the person is automatically entitled to accommodations.  The passing score requirements are the same for all candidates.

To apply for special accommodations please contact the test vendors.

It is the policy of the New Jersey State Board of Education that no person, on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, handicap or marital status, shall be subjected to discrimination in employment or be excluded from or denied benefits of any activity, program or services for which the department has responsibility. The department will comply with all state and federal laws and regulations concerning non-discrimination.
