Middle School with Subject-Matter Specialization: Science in Grades 5–8

This endorsement authorizes the holder to teach science in grades five through eight in all public schools. This endorsement does not permit the holder to teach the subject-matter specialization in grades 9 through 12.
Licensure Requirement
Hold an elementary school or P–12 subject-matter endorsement.
Subject Matter Preparation
Credit Requirements
A minimum of 15 semester-hour credits in the subject field of science.

- Physics
- Thermodynamics
The final determination as to which courses will be counted towards the subject matter is based on content standards found in the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.
Courses in pedagogy or education are not acceptable.
Coursework Requirements
In addition to the above subject-matter preparation requirements, Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) and standard certificate candidates will need a course in child and early adolescent development.
Certificate of Eligibility (CE) candidates must complete the course within 12 months of initial teaching assignment.
