Physical Science

This endorsement authorizes the holder to teach physical, environmental, and general sciences in all public schools. Physical science includes physics, chemistry, and earth and space sciences other than geography.

Subject Matter Preparation

Credit Requirements

Option 1: A minimum of 30 semester-hour credits in a coherent sequence in the subject field of Physics. At least 12 of the 30 semester-hour credits must be at the advanced level of study (junior, senior or graduate level). A minimum of 15 semester-hour credits in the subject field of Chemistry is also required. This option requires a total of 45 semester-hour credits.

Option 2: A minimum of 30 semester-hour credits in a coherent sequence in the subject field of Chemistry. At least 12 of the 30 semester-hour credits must be at the advanced level of study (junior, senior or graduate level). A minimum of 15 semester-hour credits in the subject field of Physics is also required. This option requires a total of 45 semester-hour credits.

Option 3: Candidates already holding a New Jersey CEAS or standard certificate with a science endorsement and seeking a CEAS or standard Physical Science certificate must complete 15 credits in physics or chemistry with six credits at the advanced level.
