Choice Program

Located in picturesque Sussex County, New Jersey, Kittatinny Regional High School is a highly successful 7th through 12th-grade school district serving the communities of Fredon, Hampton, Sandyston, Stillwater, and Walpack. We're committed to providing a dynamic and supportive learning environment that prepares students for success in the 21st century. Since opening in 1975, our campus has continually evolved to meet the needs of our students. Our state-of-the-art facilities include a dedicated 7th and 8th-grade wing, complete with modern science labs and classrooms that were built in 2001. We've recently invested in a district-wide server update and expanded our Wi-Fi coverage to ensure seamless access to technology, with nearly 900 IT endpoint units for student and staff use.

Innovative Learning Environments:
Kittatinny is dedicated to integrating the latest technology into every classroom. Each learning space is equipped with a Promethean or Smart Board device, enabling interactive and engaging instructional techniques. We've also made significant upgrades to our specialized facilities:

  • Video Productions/Television Lab: Our updated lab provides students with hands-on experience in media production inclusive of a sound lab room experience.
  • Media Center: A beautiful, collaborative space where students can work together and access resources with separate learning labs, Smart Board devices, and full wifi access.
  • STEM/Robotics Area: A full dedicated space dedicated to fostering innovation and problem-solving skills for all grade levels.
  • Fitness/Training Center: Built in 2020-2021, this center supports student health /physical education and sports/activities to have a state-of-the-art workout facility.

To ensure our students can focus on learning without distractions, we recently completed a $3 million HVAC upgrade, installing climate control in every classroom.

Beyond the Classroom:
Kittatinny believes that a strong education goes beyond academics. We offer a diverse array of over 50 after-school clubs and activities, a full complement of athletic programs, and award-winning Band and Choral programs. A remarkable 80% of our students are involved in at least one of these non-academic pursuits. We are especially proud of our perennial State Champion Marching Band and Wrestling programs.

Our commitment to excellence has been recognized, with NJ Monthly naming us one of New Jersey's "Most Improved Schools." We are also proud to have once again broken into the Top 100 Best High Schools in NJ, recently being ranked #95 in the state.

Preparing for the Future:
We are continually expanding our offerings to prepare students for their post-high school careers. Our School-To-Work Program expanded in collaboration with Sussex County Community College to include a new automotive program in 2024-2025 and a Sports Medicine program in collaboration with Sussex County Community College for the 2025-2026 school year. Along with the existing Structure Learning Experiences, theses initiative provides practical skills and real-world experience, bridging the gap between education and employment.

Choice Seats Availability

The purpose of the chart below is to inform parents of choice seat availability before the application deadline. After the deadline, the information will be outdated.

The Department of Education limits the number of choice seats that each district can fill. The “maximum number of new choice students that can be enrolled” tells parents how many new choice students the district can enroll in the next school year. If more than the maximum number of applications is received, a lottery will be held and a waitlist will be developed. Waitlists will be developed for all approved choice grades even if no seats are currently available. NA indicates the district is not accepting choice applications for those grades.

District Choice Policies

District Choice Policies Indicate Yes/No/NA

The district accepts Tier 2 students (see definitions of Tier 1 and Tier 2 ).

 Yes

The district gives enrollment preference to choice applicants who have a sibling currently attending the choice district and who will continue to attend in the following school year, provided there are choice seats available in the choice-approved grades/programs and the students meet any program-specific criteria.

 Yes

The district gives enrollment preference to choice applicants who have completed the terminal grade of the sending district (i.e., students who attend a choice district with grades that terminate before 12th grade and have a natural progression to this choice district), provided there are choice seats available in the choice-approved grades/programs and the students meet any program-specific criteria.

 N/A

The district gives enrollment preference to resident students who move before the application deadline. If resident students move and file choice applications for the following year prior to the deadline, the district will give them enrollment preference (i.e., accept them after the enrollment preference students described in b. and c. above, but ahead of other applicants), provided there are choice seats available in the choice-approved grades/programs and the students meet any program-specific criteria. If the district has already reached its approved choice enrollment maximum, this preference will not apply.

 Yes

The district gives special consideration to resident students who move after the application deadline. Students in this situation may apply as late applicants and be added to the front of the district’s waitlist, provided the students will enroll in a choice-approved grade/program and they meet any program-specific criteria. No additional choice seats above the maximum will be approved by the NJDOE to accommodate these students.
