Moving

If a choice student moves and their resident district changes, they can continue in their current choice program. 

When you move:

  1. Register your student with the new resident district. 
  2. Inform the new resident district that your student is in the choice program.
  3. Notify the choice district about your change in residence.
  4. If your student requires transportation, ask the choice district to request transportation from the new resident district. 

Student in Choice Grade or Program Moves Out of Choice District

During the School Year

If a student moves out of a choice district during the school year and the student is enrolled in a choice-approved grade or program, the student may:

  • Stay in the choice district until the end of the current school year
  • Enroll in the new resident district

If the student remains in the choice district, the student becomes a temporary choice student for the remainder of the school year. The new resident district then becomes responsible for providing transportation for the student, in accordance with choice transportation procedures. 

During the Summer

If a student moves out of the choice district in the summer, when the student is not in school, the choice district may allow the student to stay in the choice district for the upcoming year if all of the following are true:

  1. There are available seats in the choice-approved grades/programs.
  2. The student meets any program-specific criteria.

Contact the choice district to learn about their board policy regarding student moves and to find out if there are any available seats.

Non-Choice Student Moves out of Choice District

If a student who is not in a choice program moves out of a choice district and wants to stay in the choice district as a choice student, they must apply to the program. 

Moving Before Choice Application Deadline

If the student moves before the choice application deadline, they must follow the regular application process. However, the choice district may choose to give them enrollment preference and accept them ahead of other choice applicants. Contact the choice district for their enrollment preference policies.

Moving After the Choice Application Deadline

If the student moves after the choice application deadline, they may apply as a late applicant. Contact the choice district for their enrollment preference policies.
