Special Education Students in the Choice Program

Once a student has enrolled in a choice district, the district is required to keep the student and ensure that the student's needs for special education services are met—just the same as it would for a resident student. If an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed that cannot be implemented by the choice district, the district must follow the normal IEP process for out-of-district placement.

Refer to the Reasons for Non-Acceptance of a Choice Applicant page for detailed information on what circumstances allow a choice district to reject an applicant.
