Career and Technical Education (CTE) Data Collection

The New Jersey Department of Education's (NJDOE) Office of Career Readiness collects information from secondary school districts, county vocational school districts with adult programs and community colleges on all students enrolled in state approved CTE programs. This information is revised on a yearly basis to more completely meet the data requirements of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V). Failure to submit data by the established deadlines could impact the allocation of funding.

Secondary

All of the CTE data at the secondary level must be submitted through the NJ SMART system, under CTE Submission. The detailed information can be found on NJ SMART Resources and Trainings.

Postsecondary

County vocational school districts with eligible Perkins postsecondary CTE programs must submit enrollment and performance data annually. In addition, as part of the administration of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V), the NJDOE must collect CTE student and program performance data from the county colleges. The Vocational Education Data System (VEDS) information is crucial to the calculation of performance data to be included on the Perkins funding applications and on examining the success of the county colleges in fulfilling the goals of the CTE programs.

The CTE data required for VEDS must be submitted through the NJDOE Homeroom.

Submitting the Data

When you have completed the data entry for CTE secondary placement survey, CTE adult students' data, or CTE community college data, the file should be saved to your local data system. You must go into the NJDOE Homeroom, select "CTE (Secondary and Adult)" or "VEDS (College Data collection)" and login to upload and submit the saved CTE data file or the placement survey.
