Statement from Governor Phil Murphy on the Passing of Former New Jersey Treasurer Cliff Goldman

“Under state Treasurer Cliff Goldman, New Jersey was a national model for fiscal responsibility and long-term thinking, with a AAA bond rating and a healthy surplus that allowed us to think big. Over the last 20 years, he had been a steady and sobering voice warning us of the myriad fiscal problems fueled by politicians of both parties. His model, that we can be both fiscally responsible and proudly progressive, and that gimmicks and games are no substitute for sound financial management, is one I will continue to emulate. I will miss his guidance and friendship tremendously. Tammy and I send our condolences to Cliff's family and friends at this time. I am certain that he and Governor Byrne are together, looking down at us, and rooting for us to get our state back on the right path.”
