Statement from Governor Murphy on House Passage of Bipartisan Safer Communities Act
“With President Biden’s signature, we will at last have proof that common sense has outlasted the gun lobby’s 30-year push to stop all gun safety reforms. I applaud the Senate and House for their bipartisan and overwhelming passage of what is, despite its shortcomings, transformative national legislation. After all that’s been thrown at us from the Supreme Court in the past 24 hours, it’s good to see a little bit of sanity return to Washington.
“The door to greater action is now finally open. New Jersey stands proudly as a model for smart and effective gun safety legislation – laws which are consistent with the 2nd Amendment but equally consistent with the values of our people. I am grateful that in New Jersey the Assembly and the Senate have advanced a number of commonsense gun safety laws this past week and I look forward to signing them into law as soon as they reach my desk.”
