New Jersey and Ireland Brought Together by Cultural and Economic Bonds - Day Three

Cork, Ireland - Governor Murphy and the New Jersey delegation visited Ireland to celebrate their shared history and advocate for increased economic activity between New Jersey and Ireland.

Governor Phil Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy are Welcomed at City Hall by the Cork Mayor and Presented the Murphy Family Crest

Lord Mayor of Cork Colm Kelleher welcomed Governor Murphy, First Lady Tammy Murphy, and the New Jersey delegation to City Hall. The Governor and Lord Mayor had a private meeting and book signing. Afterwards, Ann Doherty, Chief Executive, Cork City Council made some welcoming remarks before introducing the Lord Mayor and Governor Murphy. Following the remarks, Lord Mayor Kelleher presented the Murphy Family Crest to Governor Murphy.  

Governor Phil Murphy and the New Jersey Business Delegation Attend a Networking Event Hosted by the Cork Chamber of Commerce

Governor Murphy and the New Jersey delegation attended a networking event hosted by the Cork Chamber of Commerce. At the event, the New Jersey delegation sought to develop and strengthen economic connections between 35 businesses and organizations in Cork. Furthermore, Wesley Mathews, President & CEO of Choose New Jersey and Tim Sullivan, CEO of NJEDA discussed New Jersey’s strengths and the support available to Irish companies considering establishing a presence in New Jersey. Welcome remarks were made by Governor Murphy, Conor Healy, Cork Chamber CEO followed by Colm Kelleher, the Lord Mayor of Cork and by Paula Coga, Cork Chamber Board President.

First Lady Tammy Murphy Attends I Wish Meeting to Learn more about I Wish’s efforts in Educating Girls in STEM

First Lady Tammy Murphy participated in a meeting with the leadership of I Wish and members of the Cork City Council Women’s Caucus today at The Republic of Work in Cork to learn more about STEM education for Irish girls. I Wish is a volunteer-led community organization committed to showcasing the power of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math to female secondary school students. It provides a showcase event run over four days in Ireland where to date, the organization has hosted 22,000 girls from 26 counties across Ireland. Co-Founder of I Wish Caroline O’Driscoll welcomed the First Lady with remarks followed by the First Lady speaking about STEM efforts in New Jersey. Councillor Mary Rose Desmond concluded the speaking porting of the event.

First Lady Tammy Murphy Visits Presentation Secondary Girl's Catholic School in Cork

First Lady Tammy Murphy attended an event highlighting girls' STEM achievements at the Presentation Secondary Girl's Catholic School in Cork. Principal Barry O'Shea welcomed the First Lady to the school followed by remarks from Caroline O'Driscoll, I Wish’s Co-Founder, on the importance of school involvement and commitment to the I Wish program. Next, students presented projects to the First Lady. After the presentations, the First Lady made remarks on the importance of STEM education and collaboration.

First Lady Tammy Murphy Visits Cork University Maternity Hospital, Witnesses MOU signing between NJEDA and INFANT

First Lady Tammy Murphy, NJEDA CEO Tim Sullivan and New Jersey healthcare leaders participated in a discussion with CUMH and INFANT leadership at Cork University Maternity Hospital. These discussions focused on the ties between INFANT, NJEDA, and Nurture NJ and future collaborations between the organizations. The group was welcomed by Professor Helen Whelton, Head of the College of Medicine and Health and Chief Academic Officer to the HSE South/Southwest Hospital Group. The First Lady and Tim Sullivan made remarks about the importance of future partnerships between INFANT and NJDEA. Professor Geraldine Boylan, the Director of INFANT spoke about the INFANT Program. After the speaking portion of the program concluded, NJEDA and INFANT signed an MOU, which was witnessed by the First Lady.

Governor Phil Murphy takes a tour of University College Cork Labs and Participates in a Discussion of Irish History

Governor Murphy and the New Jersey delegation were welcomed this afternoon to University College Cork campus by President John O'Halloran. After the Governor went on a lab tour, the Governor and delegation reconvened in the Great Hall for a presentation on Cork University Press (CUP) publications and Irish American connections by John Fitzgerald, Director of Information Services & University Librarian.

Governor Phil Murphy Leads Clean Energy Roundtable Hosted by Ørsted

Governor Phil Murphy led a clean energy roundtable hosted by Ørsted at University College Cork to discuss Ørsted’s work in Ireland, investment in New Jersey, and opportunities within the offshore wind industry. The Governor sat on an expert panel alongside Kieran White, VP and Managing Director of Ørsted and Tim Sullivan, CEO of NJEDA. Dr. Paul Deane, senior researcher in clean energy futures at University College Cork, moderated the conversation that highlighted the acceleration of global renewable energy projects and New Jersey’s leadership in this sector.
