Statement by Governor Murphy on the Passing of U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein

Posted on - 09/29/2023

“Tammy and I are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dianne Feinstein, a titan in American politics who shattered glass ceilings as the longest-serving woman Senator in U.S. history. With a fervent passion for public service, Dianne leaves behind an unparalleled legacy as San Francisco’s first female mayor, the first woman elected to the Senate from California, the first woman to chair the Senate Rules and Administration Committee and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and California’s longest-serving Senator. It is through these firsts that Dianne blazed a trail for the millions of women and girls who share her commitment to not only being in the room where decisions are being made, but being decision-makers themselves. Dianne’s vital role as a champion for gun safety, affordable and accessible health care, and civil rights has led to historic progress in our country and will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.”
