TRENTON - Governor Phil Murphy today ordered that in recognition and mourning of former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, U.S. and New Jersey flags fly at half-staff at all state buildings and facilities from Tuesday, December 5, 2023, through the day of Justice O’Connor’s interment, consistent with the proclamation issued by President Biden.

“It is with great sadness that our nation mourns the loss of Justice O’Connor, a trailblazer who served our country with determination, dignity, and grace,” said Governor Murphy. “Throughout her career, Justice O’Connor broke barriers and paved the way for future generations of women following in her footsteps. Justice O’Connor has left a legacy to serve as an example for countless others and will remain a towering figure in our nation’s history and in the legal community.”
