Statement by Governor Murphy on New Jersey Gubernatorial Primary Election Results

After the results of the Primary Election, Governor Murphy released the following statement:

“After a hard-fought primary campaign, New Jersey voters have spoken, and they have selected Mikie Sherrill and Jack Ciattarelli as the Democratic and Republican nominees for Governor, respectively. I want to offer my congratulations to both Mikie and Jack for earning the trust and support of primary voters all across our state.

“I would also like to thank every candidate – on both sides of the aisle – who stepped up to run in this year’s election and participate in our sacred democratic process.

“Over the next few months, as the general election ramps up, I know we will see a spirited campaign for Governor and all 80 Assembly seats. And I look forward to working with the winner of this November’s election to ensure the smoothest possible transition for the next Governor.

“For the next seven months, our Administration is going to spend every minute we have left running through the tape to continue building the stronger, fairer, and more affordable New Jersey that the people of our state deserve.”

Eight New Jersey Schools Recognized For Innovative Climate Action Projects

The Drumthwacket Foundation and Sustainable Jersey recognized eight student teams from middle and high schools across New Jersey for their projects in the 2025 New Jersey Student Climate Challenge. These action projects, designed and completed by students, addressed local impacts and causes of climate change and were presented through original digital story videos.

The award ceremony was hosted by the Drumthwacket Foundation and New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy, who commended the students and their teacher mentors for their leadership and innovation.

“It is my honor to once again host the Annual NJ Student Climate Challenge Action Project Awards at Drumthwacket,” said First Lady Tammy Murphy. “The projects receiving awards represent the very best of student-led innovation, dedication and environmental problem-solving. From identifying areas lacking shade trees to reduce flooding and the urban heat island effect, to launching a composting program to make sustainability a daily focus in their school community and so much more, each of these student teams exemplifies meaningful leadership in the face of a rapidly evolving climate crisis. New Jersey is leading the nation in climate change education and our students are being prepared to succeed in the green jobs of tomorrow.”

New Jersey Opioid Recovery and Remediation Advisory Council Releases Statewide Strategic Plan to Inform Opioid Settlement Investments Through 2030

The New Jersey Opioid Recovery and Remediation Advisory Council released its inaugural Strategic Plan — a comprehensive, five-year roadmap to guide the equitable and data-driven investment of opioid settlement funds by the state.

The plan focuses on saving lives, reducing harm, and improving long-term outcomes for individuals and communities impacted by the opioid crisis.

Convened in 2023, the Advisory Council is tasked with making recommendations for how New Jersey should allocate its share of the national opioid settlement funds. The newly released Strategic Plan outlines clear goals to promote and expand housing, harm reduction, treatment, and wraparound services, all grounded in extensive public input and a statewide needs assessment.

“Our Administration has made historic investments into lifesaving programs to support New Jersey families impacted by the opioid crisis. While I am immensely proud of our progress, much work remains,” said Governor Phil Murphy. “The Opioid Recovery and Remediation Advisory Council’s Strategic Plan represents a crucial step forward in our continued fight to prevent overdose deaths in New Jersey and better support those struggling with substance use disorders. By relying on the input of those most affected by the opioid crisis, this plan will help ensure that settlement funds are invested in improving treatment and wraparound services while tracking long-term success, giving communities across New Jersey the resources necessary to support sustained recovery.”

DCA Awards Funds for Neighborhood Revitalization Efforts in New Jersey

The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA)  announced the award of $15,416,375 in funding for fiscal year 2025 (FY2025) to 28 community-based nonprofit organizations across the state through the Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit (NRTC) Program. These nonprofit organizations will use the NRTC funding, which comes from business contributions, to implement revitalization plans that address housing and economic development, as well as complementary activities such as social services, recreation activities, employment training, and open space improvements in qualifying communities.

“The Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit Program centers itself on partnership and shared benefits. DCA connects businesses with worthwhile neighborhood projects that are being done by nonprofit organizations deeply rooted in the communities they serve,” said DCA Commissioner Jacquelyn A. Suárez. “The program is doing so much to uplift neighborhoods around the state. Whether it’s building affordable housing, creating a home repair program, rehabbing storefronts, or developing community centers, residents and small businesses are reaping the rewards of these meaningful projects.”
