1.
GENERAL RICHARD B. MYERS, CHAIRMAN OF THE JOINT CHIEFS OF
STAFF, THANKED AMERICANS FOR THEIR OUTPOURING OF SUPPORT TO
THEIR ARMED FORCES during a Pentagon briefing this week. "I
want to express my gratitude to the American people for sending
their online thank you notes to America's service members,
thanking them for defending our nation's freedoms. More than
3.7 million Americans have visited the Defense Department's
website, www.defendamerica.mil
to show their support and obtain up-to-date coverage of America's
war on terrorism.
2.
THE 253RD TRANSPORTATION COMPANY, LOCATED IN CAPE MAY AND
TUCKERTON, HAS BEEN MOBILIZED IN SUPPORT OF OPERATION ENDURING
FREEDOM. The unit reported to Home Stations on 5 February
2003. They conducted a three-day Soldier Readiness Processing
(SRP) exercise 7-9 February 2003 at Sea Girt, New Jersey in
preparation for their Federal activation. HQ STARC personnel
supported this three-day exercise, insuring the soldiers of
the 253rd are ready for deployment. The 253rd TC reports to
their Mobilization Station on 10 February 2003. Good luck
to all the soldiers who will deploy.
3.
STATE OFFICES CLOSED ON WEDNESDAY, 12 FEBRUARY, IN OBSERVANCE
OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN'S BIRTHDAY. Of all the presidents in the
history of the United States, Abraham Lincoln is probably
the one that Americans remember the best and with deepest
affection. His childhood in the frontier of Indiana set the
course for his character and motivation later in life. He
brought a new honesty and integrity to the White House, and
will always be remembered as "Honest Abe." Most
of all, President Lincoln is associated with the final abolition
of slavery. He became the virtual dream where an ordinary
person from humble beginnings could reach the pinnacle of
society as president of the country.
4.
HONOR NEW JERSEY'S WAR VETERANS WITH A SIMPLE TAX DEDUCTION.
Donations to the New Jersey Korean War Memorial Fund and the
New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund can easily be made
by using the charitable deduction check-off on your New Jersey
State Income Tax Form. Your support of these funds will, in
a small way, help to honor New Jerseyans who served during
those wars.
5. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE TESTS SPACE AVAILABLE
TRAVEL PRIVILEGES FOR DEPENDENTS WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED
STATES (CONUS). The Assistant Secretary of Defense (Transportation
Policy) has approved a one-year test to evaluate the expansion
of space-available privileges for dependents traveling within
the CONUS. The test will allow dependents of active service
duty and retired Uniformed Services members to travel within
the CONUS when accompanied by their sponsors. The test is
scheduled to begin 1 April 2003 and will end 1 April 2004.
For additional information concerning space-available travel
and sign-up procedures, please review the Air Mobility Command's
public website at http://amcpublic.scott.af.mil/Spacea/spacea.htm
or contact the servicing Department of Defense air terminal
of interest.
6.
INFORMATION AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DIVISION HELP DESK
STATISTICS. When your computer doesn't work, it never seems
that it can be fixed fast enough. Next time you call the Help
Desk or see one of those personnel hurrying from job to job,
here are a few things to consider. During the year 2002 there
were a total of 4979 calls taken. Of those calls, 26 were
cancelled and 273 are still pending. That's about a 95% success
rate for calls during the year. Account creation or permissions
were the biggest problem and accounted for over half the calls,
followed by hardware issues and requests for equipment. The
five personnel in the Help Desk are the front line of support
for state and federal technology users across the entire state.
Their talents cover a wide range of information technology
skills, which allow them to fix or refer the problems for
resolution.
7.

NEW JERSEY AWARD RECOGNITION. The State Command Chief Warrant
Officer, CW5 Al Curving, reminds all NJ Army National Guard
