NJMIHIA Community-Based Doula Pilot Program
The New Jersey Maternal and Infant Health Innovation Authority (NJMIHIA) is proud to lead a statewide initiative to expand access to community-based doulas through our new NJMIHIA Community Based Doula Training Program. This program is designed to train doulas with deep community roots, culturally aligned care approaches, and the skills to support birthing families across the state.

We’re excited to announce the launch of our pilot cohort, which officially began on Monday, September 29!
Spots are limited to the first 20 eligible trainees per cohort, so don’t wait to secure your place.

Program Schedule
- Duration: 8 weeks
- Start Date: Monday, September 29, 2025
- End Date: Friday, November 21, 2025
- Schedule:
- Mondays, Wednesdays, and every other Friday
- 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM
- Location: Hamilton YMCA, 1315 Whitehorse Mercerville Road, Hamilton, NJ (approximately 15 minutes from Trenton)
- Tuition: FREE of charge
Note: Full attendance is required. Participants must commit to the entire training program.

Trainees will receive hands-on and classroom-based instruction through the NJMIHIA Community-Based Doula Core Curriculum, as well as:
- CPR and HIPAA Certification
- NJDOH Cultural Competency Training (formerly SCCT)
- Three Practical Birth Experiences
Graduates will be eligible to enroll as NJ FamilyCare (Medicaid) providers, allowing them to begin serving families across New Jersey.
NJMIHIA Doula Team will support each trainee through the entire training and enrollment process.
To apply, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have English reading and writing proficiency (training and materials are in English)
- Be available to attend all training sessions
If you are currently employed and training hours overlap with your schedule, you must submit a signed letter from your employer confirming their support.
