| Overview |
 |
| Nearly
13,000 lives are lost each year nationwide to
impaired drivers. To help bring further awareness
to the tragedies associated with drunk and drugged
driving, the Division of Highway Traffic Safety,
in partnership with law enforcement agencies,
substance abuse prevention organizations and traffic
safety advocates, hosts the annual New Jersey
Remembers ceremony to commemorate the lives lost
as a result of impaired drivers. |
 |
|
 |
| During
an emotional remembrance, families who have lost
loved ones to an impaired driver participate in
a processional where they are escorted by local
police officers. The families display photos of
their loved ones and light candles to commemorate
their lives. |
 |
As
a reminder of the continuing effort to eliminate
drunk and drugged driving, traffic officers from
around the state are recognized for their role
in enforcing New Jersey’s Driving
While Intoxicated (DWI) laws (Top Gun). |
