If bicyclists wish to cross the Delaware River into Pennsylvania and the Hudson River into New York City, they will need to know the restrictions.

From Trenton north to the New York State line most bridges have walkways. Bicyclists are required to walk on walkways. Bikes must be walked over all bridges with bicycle access.

This old footbridge will not appear on most maps. On the New Jersey side, there is a campground and recreation area where the Delaware and Raritan Canal begin. On the Pennsylvania side, you will find the historic Black Bass Inn beside the bridge in the old settlement of Lumberville.

Delaware Water Gap Bridge Operated by:
I-80 and Route 46
The famous scenic Water Gap Gorge is just south of this bridge along the river. The Appalachian Trail crosses at this bridge.
Bicyclists are permitted to use the sidewalk, but are not permitted to continue along the Interstate on the Pennsylvania side.

Crossing to New York City
George Washington Bridge (Port Authority)
South walkways on the upper level of the bridge is open to bicycle traffic. The south walkway is ramped. For information, call (201) 243-4021
Lincoln and Holland Tunnel
No bike riding or walking through these tunnels is permitted
Bayonne Bridge (Port Authority)
Has walkway open to bicyclists. If gate to walkway is closed, use emergency phone or call police desk in advance at (718) 390-2501. Access involves carrying bike up stairs.
Goethals Bridge (Port Authority)
No bicycle or pedestrian access to bridge.
Outerbridge Crossing (Port Authority)
No walkway; special arrangements for access by groups can be made in advance by calling (718) 390-2524.
