Necropsy Downdraft Workstation Bid Proposal
Animal Health Diagnostic Laboratory Description of Equipment Need The New Jersey Department of Agriculture (NJDA), Animal Health Diagnostic Laboratory (AHDL) provides Pathology services in the form of necropsy gross examinations of animal remains, microscopic examination of biopsy and necropsy tissue specimens, and necropsy specimen collection for ancillary diagnostic tests (e.g., bacterial cultures, fecal parasite examination, molecular and toxicological analyses) to determine cause of death for an individual or group of animals. These specimens are received from practicing veterinarians, private food and companion animal owners, regulatory and law enforcement agencies, racetracks, wildlife, zoos and nonprofit animal facilities throughout New Jersey. The AHDL is looking for two (2) height-adjustable ventilated downdraft workstation that is designed to be functional, durable and safe for animal necropsies and tissue dissections. This workstation will allow AHDL personnel to have a healthier, safer work environment as the table functions to pull air, odors, vapors and aerosols down and away from the face of personnel when connected to a negative air source. Chemicals such as formalin, alcohol and xylene are controlled and can be kept below OSHA permissible exposure limits during use. An added intention with this purchase is the feature of height-adjustment to the table that offers personnel the benefits of improved ergonomics, enhanced health and productivity, and reduced back pain and muscle strain by allowing users to alternate between sitting and standing throughout the necropsy or tissue dissection procedures.
