Paid Leave Programs
New Jersey Paid Family and Medical Leave benefits (aka Temporary Disability and Family Leave Insurance) and New Jersey Earned Sick Leave can provide vital supports to workers with disabilities.
- Temporary Disability Insurance can provide cash benefits for when you can't work for your own non-work-related physical or mental health condition.
- Family Leave Insurance can provide cash benefits for up to 12 weeks for when you have to stop working to care for a loved one with a physical/mental health condition, and more.
- Job Protection: Temporary Disability Insurance and Family Leave Insurance are wage replacement programs and they do not provide job protection. - NJ Earned Sick Leave: Employers of all sizes must provide full-time, part-time, and temporary employees with up to 40 hours of earned sick leave per year to care for themselves or a loved one, including chosen family.

Temporary Disability Insurance
Temporary Disability Insurance provides cash benefits to New Jersey workers who have to stop working due to a physical or mental health condition or other disability that was not caused by your work.
Your healthcare provider certifies how long you need to recover from your medical condition, up to a maximum of 26 weeks.
To have a valid claim for Temporary Disability Insurance, there are earnings requirements.
Temporary Disability Insurance is available to most New Jersey workers.

Family Leave
Family Leave Insurance provides New Jersey workers cash benefits for up to 12 weeks to
- Care for a loved one with a physical/mental health condition
- Cope with domestic/sexual violence, or
- Bond with a newborn, newly adopted, or newly placed foster child
To have a valid claim for Family Leave Insurance, there are earnings requirements. Family Leave Insurance is available to most New Jersey workers.

Earned Sick Leave
Employers of all sizes must provide full-time, part-time, and temporary employees with up to 40 hours of earned sick leave per year to care for themselves or a loved one, including chosen family.
This can include:
- for physical/mental illness or wellness care
- to cope with domestic or sexual violence
- to attend a meeting at your child's school
Employers must provide earned sick leave to nearly all employees:
- No matter how much you work: full-time, part-time, seasonal, or temporary
- No matter how you’re paid: salaried, hourly, cash, or piece rate.
- No matter how many workers your company employs

Work-related Injuries or Illnesses: Workers’ Compensation
The Workers’ Compensation Act requires your employer to have workers’ compensation insurance which provides a worker. injured as a result of a work-related accident, with Medical Treatment, Temporary Benefits, Permanent Partial Benefits, Permanent Disability Benefits, and Dependency benefits, in cases where the work-related accident results in the death of the worker. You may also file a petition for an informal hearing with the department in cases of dispute.
