Veterans enrolled in the VA’s health care system are eligible to receive health care services, personal care assistance, medications, and other services. Veterans must have a service-connected disability or meet income requirements to enroll.
Veterans are also eligible for various services through the VA such as home loans, gravestone markers, funeral plots at no cost when buried at a military cemetery, or reimbursement for plots purchased in other cemeteries, educational loans through the GI Bill, vocational rehabilitation and employment services, disability compensation, pensions, life insurance, and survivor’s benefits. Get Paid as a Caregiver for a Family Member
In New Jersey, some individuals with disabilities who receive NJ FamilyCare may have the option to direct their own care and choose a caregiver, including a trusted family member or friend.
Through self-directed services, individuals can decide what support they need and who provides that care. This may include help with daily activities such as personal care, medication reminders, meal preparation, and household tasks.
Participants work with a financial management service to develop a care plan, manage a budget, and handle caregiver payments, allowing for greater flexibility and independence.
Who is Eligible?
Individuals must be enrolled in NJ FamilyCare and approved for personal care services.
To Apply
Contact your NJ FamilyCare Managed Care Organization (MCO) and ask to speak with a Care Manager about self-directed care options.

Bringing Veterans Home
Bringing Veterans Home, a partnership between the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) and the New Jersey Department of Veterans Affairs, helps prevent and end homelessness among veterans by providing guidance on how to access safe, stable housing and connecting veterans with the services and supports they need.
What the Program Provides
Bringing Veterans Home helps connect veterans in need with supports that help them find and stay in stable housing. Veterans that are homeless are first connected with emergency shelter and other resources, while veterans who already have temporary shelter will receive help in finding permanent housing. Bringing Veterans Home coordinates with federal, state, and local housing programs across New Jersey to help veterans access helpful resources, such as rental assistance programs and mental health services. The Housing Navigation services team will also help veterans search for housing, work with landlords, and handle paperwork needed to secure a new home.
Learn More
To learn more about the program and available resources, visit the Bringing Veterans Home website. You can use the “Make a Referral” section of the website to refer yourself or another veteran for services.
