DRBC and DNREC Staff Partner to Sample Delaware's Red Lion Creek

Staff from the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) and Delaware Dept. of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) have partnered to collect samples from various locations on Delaware's Red Lion Creek, a tributary to the Delaware River. Samples collected are being analyzed for toxic substances that include PCBs, mercury, and some organic compounds.

Sampling was done as part of DNREC's Watershed Approach to Toxics Assessment and Restoration (WATAR), which is a watershed-scale approach to compile, assess, and access toxics data. Also included is the evaluation of the need for and, if necessary, the development of total maximum daily loads (TMDLs) for toxic substances, as well as the implementation of restoration actions based upon site prioritization.
