An icy Delaware River at Trenton, N.J. Photo by the DRBC, taken January 15, 2025. |
Winter is here! Staff was out recently to check on the river ice and grabbed these photos and video of an icy Delaware River at Trenton, N.J.
Icing on the Delaware River is not unusual with persistent, cold temperatures. The same goes for icing on tributaries; even the Delaware Bay can ice up!
DRBC staff is monitoring conditions and keeping in contact with our members (the states and the U.S. Army Corps) and other partners and stakeholders on river ice buildup.
Did You Know?
River ice can block water intakes for drinking water utilities and other industries.
Ice can also impact river gages. The USGS Delaware River Dashboard currently shows several gages that are affected by ice, impeding data collection.
• USGS Delaware River Dashboard
Several USGS gages along the Delaware River are equipped with real-time cameras, showing current conditions of river ice. Examples include:
• USGS Delaware River Gage at Montague, N.J.
• USGS Delaware River Gage at Lambertville, N.J.
• USGS Delaware River Gage at Trenton, N.J.
These photos were taken by DRBC staff on January 10, and January 14, 2025
