DRBC To Hold Public Meetings In Millville On A New Water Resources Plan For The Delaware River Basin

For Immediate Release

February 13, 2004

The Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) has scheduled a set of meetings next week in Millville to get feedback from the public on a draft water resources plan for the basin.

When: Feb. 19, 2004, 2:00 p.m to 4:00 p.m. (registration 1:30 p.m.); and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (registration 6:30 p.m.).

Where: Riverfront Renaissance Center for the Arts, 22 North High Street, Millville, N.J. (directions can be found on the DRBC's web site at www.drbc.net).

The draft plan is the product of a four-year stakeholder process initiated by the governors of the four states with land draining to the Delaware River and Bay (New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New York).

The five key areas included in the plan are sustainable water use and supply, waterway corridor management, linking land and water resource management, institutional coordination and cooperation, and education and involvement for stewardship.

A Watershed Advisory Council, whose members represent a broad spectrum of basin interests ranging from business and industry to environmental advocacy groups, worked with DRBC staff and technical advisory committees in compiling the draft plan.

A copy of the plan, along with supporting documents, can be found on the DRBC's web site.
