Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teachers
The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) offers instructional certificates that authorize the holder of the certificate to teach within public schools that offer NJDOE-approved CTE programs of study. CTE programs of study are secondary programs that prepare students to enter postsecondary education, training, and employment in high-skill, high-wage, and in-demand occupations. Teachers of approved CTE programs of study must hold a CTE certificate issued by the NJDOE.
Each CTE certificate issued by the NJDOE includes an endorsement which identifies the subject area for which the holder of the CTE certificate is authorized to teach. For example, the NJDOE may issue a CTE certificate with an endorsement in carpentry, which would authorize the holder of the CTE certificate to teach carpentry within those public schools that offer approved carpentry CTE programs of study.
