Cooperative Education Coordinator-Hazardous Occupations Standard Certificate

The Cooperative Education Coordinator-Hazardous Occupations endorsement authorizes the holder to place and supervise:
- Career and technical education (CTE) students in school-sponsored Cooperative Education Experiences (CEEs) and apprenticeship training as part of a New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE)-approved CTE program of study in a related hazardous occupation; and
- Students participating in any non-hazardous work-based learning experience (WBL) in any Career Cluster®, other than CEEs and apprenticeship training.
To be eligible for the Cooperative Education Coordinator-Hazardous Occupations standard certificate, the candidate must meet the following requirements:
Certificate Requirement
Hold a standard instructional certificate with a CTE endorsement in any field.
Experience Requirement
Evidence of two years of successful teaching experience under a standard CTE certificate with a hazardous occupations endorsement.
Employment Requirement
At least 1,000 hours of documented employment experience in a hazardous occupation, as approved by the Chief School Administrator (CSA).
Exception: Individuals holding a standard CTE certificate in a hazardous occupation are not required to submit additional employment experience.
Training Requirement
Complete the following NJDOE-approved WBL training courses offered by the New Jersey Safe Schools Program (NJSSP):
- Designing and Implementing Student Training Plans
- Federal Wage and Hour and Child Labor Laws, Regulations, and Hazardous Orders
- New Jersey Wage and Hour and Wage Payment and Child Labor Laws, and Hazardous Orders
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 Plus for General Industry
Coursework Requirements
Graduate-level college courses or a NJDOE-approved equivalent program in:
- Instructional strategies for career information and occupational guidance.
- Instructional strategies for work-based education.
The NJSSP provides these two courses as a NJDOE-approved equivalent.
Exceptions
Individuals holding a Vocational-Technical Coordinator: Cooperative Industrial Education Endorsement as of January 20, 2004, may serve in a position requiring the Cooperative Education Coordinator-Hazardous Occupations endorsement in any Career Cluster.
The holder of a standard CTE endorsement who has completed the WBL Coordinator training course requirements as outlined above (NJSS: Required Courses for Work-Based Learning Supervision | Rutgers School of Public Health), is authorized to place and supervise CTE students in school-sponsored WBL experiences that include CEEs in the occupation in which the holder is certified as part of a CTE program.
To be eligible for the Cooperative Education Coordinator-Hazardous emergency certificate, you need to meet the following requirements:
- Hold a standard certificate with a CTE endorsement.
- Evidence of two years of successful CTE teaching experience.
- Have 1,000 hours of employment experience in a hazardous occupation, as approved by the chief school administrator.
