Testing Requirements for Certification in New Jersey

Note: These requirements are in accordance with the regulations in effect as of March 2023. Requirements and passing scores are subject to change without notice.

To obtain certification, candidates must meet New Jersey’s testing requirements. The Certificate and Endorsements webpage outlines rules and regulations for each endorsement.

Testing Information

  • Register for the tests on the Educational Testing Service (ETS) or Prometric websites. Continuous testing is offered throughout the year for many Praxis tests. The Praxis World Languages tests and the School Leadership Series (SLS) tests are only available during certain testing windows.
  • Scores on Praxis Core Academic Skills (Basic Skills Requirements), Praxis Subject tests, Educational Services tests, and SLS tests taken at New Jersey locations will automatically be sent to the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE).
  • If you test in another state or online, you must request to have your score sent to the NJDOE by coding R7666 on your registration form.
  • The omission of the NJDOE code (R7666) and your Social Security number may cause a delay in your certificate issuance.
  • Only official score reports from ETS are accepted for certification.
  • You will need your candidate identification number for each test when you apply for educator certification in the New Jersey Educator Certification System (NJEdCert).
