Postsecondary Private Career Schools

Postsecondary Private Career School Unit

The New Jersey Department of Education’s (NJDOE) Postsecondary Private Career School Unit (PPCSU) provides leadership for the state's career and technical education system for both secondary and postsecondary programs.

The PPCSU works in conjunction with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s (NJDOL) Training Evaluation Unit (TEU) to evaluate and approve private career schools, out-of-state private career schools and correspondence schools that wish to operate within New Jersey.

Private Career Schools (PCU)

Private Career Schools (PCS) offer postsecondary occupational training and retraining programs to the general public. The training may be financed personally by the student, through funds provided by a variety of state agencies, through federal loans and grants, or a combination of these sources. PCS approval is shared between the NJDOE and the NJDOL.

The PPCSU, in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:19-7.1, is responsible for approving the programmatic components of school applications including:

  • Program and Course Curricula
  • Personnel and Professional Credentialing

The TEU, in accordance with N.J.A.C. 12:4, is responsible for approving and managing the administrative components of school applications and operations including:
