Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism is a developmental disorder that affects 1 in 35 children in New Jersey and 1 in 44 children nationwide.  The DSM-V characterizes Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) by persistent deficits in social communication and the presence of restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior.  Autism occurs across all racial, ethnic and socioeconomic groups and is almost five times more likely to occur amongst boys than girls. There is no known cure for autism, however, there are evidence-based treatment approaches that can significantly improve outcomes for individuals with autism.  The following resources are intended to assist educators and families in identifying the appropriate supports, services and programs for children with autism.
