Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects 1 in 29 children in New Jersey and 1 in 31 nationwide. The DSM-5-TR characterizes autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by persistent deficits in social communication and social interaction across multiple contexts. Autism occurs across all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups and is almost four times more likely to occur amongst boys than girls. There is no known cure for autism; however, there are evidence-based interventions that can significantly improve the educational outcomes for individuals with autism. The following resources are intended to assist educators and families in identifying the appropriate supports, services, and programs for children with autism.
