New Jersey has 18 regional substance abuse prevention coalitions that aim to reduce underage drinking, reduce use of illegal substances, particularly underage opioid abuse, and reduce misuse of prescription medications.

Prevention & Early Intervention Services

The Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services plans prevention and early intervention services in the state and awards funding to providers. Division staff monitor contracts, provide technical assistance to provider agencies, and oversee outcome evaluations for all prevention and early intervention programs. The Division collaborates with the County Alcohol & Drug Abuse Directors, County Mental Health Administrators and other federal, state, county, and local government entities in the administration of prevention and early intervention services.

The Division promotes Evidence-Based Prevention programs endorsed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
