Art Commissions Available for Future DOH Offices

Thank you for your interest in creating art installations for the future office site of the Department of Health. Submissions closed on March 26, 2019 and are no longer being accepted.

The New Jersey State Council on the Arts, in cooperation with the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), has issued Requests for Qualifications for artwork opportunities at the site of the future building of the New Jersey Department of Health.

The site is at the corner of West Hanover Street and North Willow Street in the City of Trenton and is owned by the State of New Jersey, Department of Treasury, Division of Property Management and Construction. The 209,000 s.f., six floor office building will include 3,500 s.f. mixed use space on the first floor. The construction project includes sidewalk improvements along property frontage and improvements to the pedestrian crosswalks at the West Hanover Street and Capitol Street corners of the property.

During the design process, in anticipation of the inclusion of public art, discussions were held with members of the Art Selection Committee, which consists of representatives of Artworks Trenton, the State Arts Council, the Department of the Treasury, the Division of Property Management and Construction, the Department of Health, the Project architect, and NJEDA. Potential locations and thematic material were discussed that would integrate the art within the context of the Project.

It is anticipated that one or more artist finalists, or artist finalists in joint venture, will provide the services identified in these opportunities:
